How Homeowners Insurance Rates Vary

house Bankrate compared home insurance prices around the country and found huge variations state-to-state. Policies with $250,000 in dwelling coverage can cost less than $750 per year, as seen in Hawaii, Vermont and Delaware, but cost well over $4,000 a year in states like Oklahoma, and Nebraska. Check average rates in your state. If you haven't shopped around in your state for a number of years, call some property insurance companies and see if they could be less than what you are paying now.

Bargain of the Week

"Pi" Day is March 14

Look for bargains this Thursday, March 14 on pizza and baked goods since it is "Pi" day, named after the mathematical constant. MrConsumer's favorite offer is at Blaze Pizza, where any regular size pizza including "build-your-own" is only $3.14 in their app.

Deals on Corn Beef and Cabbage

Supermarkets around the country in advance of St. Patrick's Day are offering specials on corn beef and cabbage. In the Boston area, for example, Star Market and Shaw's have point-cut corned beef for $1.27 a pound, and whole cabbage for 17 cents a pound. Keep in mind that cryovac-sealed packages of corn beef have up to 35-percent salt "solution", so you are essentially paying for one-third water.
