Passwords Driving You Crazy? Try a Free Password Manager

passwords Websites keep asking you to change passwords, and trying to remember them all is a pain in the you-know-where. Perhaps installing a password manager will make entering them easier. PC World evaluated a number of free password managers, so see if one might be helpful to you. If you have more than one device, try to find one that works across all of them for free.

Some Retailers Tighten Return Policies

return policy Consumer World just released its 21st annual return policy survey of major retail chains. Some of them have started their special holiday return period later than usual, and some have shortened their return policy. Kohl's for example cut their generous 180-day return period in half for non-Kohl's card customers. [This feature will appear here through Jan. 5th.]

Bargain of the Week

Christmas Clearance

Christmas clearance is in full swing and even coming to an end in some stores already. Don't settle for less that 50% off. Target is already 70% off, but food (candy, etc.) is 30 - 50% off depending on location. It should go to 70% off too. (In the Everett, MA Target, as of Monday morning, Christmas stuff is 90% off, and food is 70%.) Expect drugstores to go up to 70-75% off around January 4. Don't forget to check the candy aisle at supermarkets.

TurboTax Best Price -- Delayed???

Sometime this week, Amazon always offers the best price of the tax season on TurboTax Deluxe state and federal -- around $35 net. You typically pay around $45 for it on this two-day only (or so) sale, but it comes with a $10 Amazon gift card. Keep checking the Amazon site during this period. There is some speculation online that January 18th will be the sale day because Costco/Sam's supposedly are lowering their price by $11 on that day.
